Art Of The Hustle - Original Inspiration For Tom's Street Hustle Book

“To raise your game you must think like a hustler and see all the angles – in pool, in life”

Robert Greene

I’ve always been a huge fan of the heist genre, with the 1961 movie “The Hustler” being the original inspiration for me defining the art of daygame as Street Hustling. In this podcast I explain the links to the genre and the backstory of my fascination with it.

An excellent article I read recently by Robert Greene makes similar connections between the hustle of a pool shark and the wider hustle at the heart of life (including seduction). At the end of the article he quotes some key hustling mindsets from the legendary Iceberg Slim, which I’ll repeat a few of here (although I urge you to read the full article also)…

  • Chumps prefer a beautiful lie to an ugly truth
  • No point in getting upset about the unknown. Only suckers do that
  • Stop letting your mind leapfrog like a screwy sucker
  • I went to the phone to call the Goddess. I walked away from it. It was a sucker play to call her too soon

My favourite is this one…

  • You can’t learn con by memorising words. Every mark and every play of any con is different. You have to memorise the elements of con
